"You're not broken. Your brain just needs help processing what happened so healing can resume."

Trauma affects more than just your memories. It affects your emotions and mental state, relationships, work and home. You feel like you're constantly on edge, waiting for the next bad thing to happen. You avoid places, people, and situations that remind you of what happened. You blame yourself. You miss who you used to be before the trauma. Your body is exhausted but your mind won't shut off so you can sleep. You have nightmares that jolt you awake. You feel anxious and sad, isolated, left out and hate how unpredictable your reactions are. Maybe you have tried talk therapy before and found that rehashing the details over and over made things worse instead of better. The idea of trying therapy again brings as much dread as hope. You worry about whether a new therapist will understand and if you will feel safe enough to open up.

Ways that trauma affects people:

  • Intrusive memories, flashbacks, or nightmares that make you feel like you're back in that moment

  • Avoiding reminders of the trauma, including people, places, conversations, or activities

  • Negative changes in thinking and mood, such as feeling numb, hopeless, or disconnected from others

  • Changes in physical and emotional reactions, like being easily startled, always on guard, having trouble sleeping, or experiencing angry outbursts

  • Difficulty trusting others or feeling safe in relationships

  • Loss of interest in things you used to enjoy

  • Feeling like you're different now, like the trauma changed who you are at your core

  • Guilt, shame, or self-blame about what happened or how you've reacted since

  • Physical symptoms like headaches, stomach problems, or muscle tension with no clear medical cause

You want to heal without having to relive every painful detail. You want to work with someone who understands that trauma isn't just something you can "get over" or "move on from" with enough time. I can do these things for you.

I use EMDR therapy to help people heal from trauma. EMDR is different from traditional talk therapy—you don't have to describe what happened in detail, and you don't have homework between sessions. Instead, EMDR helps your brain process traumatic memories the way it's naturally designed to, resolving the distress so the memories no longer overwhelm you. EMDR therapy is recognized by major organizations worldwide, including the American Psychiatric Association, the World Health Organization, and the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, as one of the most effective treatments for trauma and PTSD. Many people experience significant improvement in fewer sessions than other therapies.

You don't have to carry this pain forever; I can help you heal from trauma using EMDR therapy. Make the call today to get started.
